what is a vertical intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Vertical goes up, Horziontal goes side to side. Vertical line is Y & Horizontal is X. if its going to cross a line going up, it would be on the x axis, hope this helped :)!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

hmm, if a y intercept defines the places where a relation crosses the y axis; and an x intercept defines the places where a relation crosses the x axis I would say that a vertical intercept is the place where a relation crosses a vertical line; vertical lines are defined as x=c, where c is any arbitrary constant

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so i wouldnt quite say its where it crosses the x axis; but rather the x=c axis (y axis is the x=0 axis)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we were to take the function: y = x^2, then the x=5 intercept would be y=25
