I have a similar problem that I can't figure out. if theta = arctan(-1/squareroot 3) what is theta in terms of pi?

OpenStudy (roadjester):

|dw:1333342873388:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you multiply both sides by tangent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can get rid of the arc tan which might be a little more easy on you

OpenStudy (roadjester):

So theta=-30 degrees or -pi/6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you'd get Tan(theta)=-1/squarert(3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which would match roadjester's picture

OpenStudy (anonymous):

due to Opposite/Adjacent
