I am 12 years old and trying to learn Java...Are the MIT lectures going to do me any good?
I would say yes! Programming is a universal thought process, become comfortable with Algebra I & II and start with Introduction which focuses heavily on Python, a great first language, easy to get into, teaches you the constraints of programming. Move onto Java once you finish this course and feel comfortable with programming logic.
Also, I'd like to say it brings tears of joy to see someone as young as you show interest in programming, I was about your age when I started and I assure you it was not with something as advanced as Java! Good luck to you, stackoverflow.com will be your savior :)
Found this have not tried it: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/electrical-engineering-and-computer-science/6-092-introduction-to-programming-in-java-january-iap-2010/ Hope this helps.
Thanks everybody! Your feedback has been quite helpful.
I am 16 and I programmed when I was in 6th grade, I originally started learning C/C++ but I hated it so I learned Java and it's my most used language, I am glad to see that someone else loves java<3
