Solve. 2x^1/3-2=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Igot x=4. But I don't feel that is correct

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

this is 2x^(1/3) - 2 = 0 yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

hmm i'll guide you step by step...add two to both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x^1/3=2

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

good! now divide both sides by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

X^1/3=1

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

now take the cube root of both sides...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What exactly doz you mean

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

oh wait..i meant cube both sides...you want x..so 1/3 has to cancel out..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it would just equal. 1

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yes! :DDD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thankkk youu :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How about this next problem.. I reallly don't think I got it correct either.. (2x+1)^1/3=1 I got x=0

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

get the cube root...then transpose the constant...then divide the constant..you'll get it if you do it step by step ;D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol Si does that mean I got that one wrong to?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yeahhh =)))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ughhhh

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

so...got it yet? /:) hehe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nooo

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

ok..cube both sides..ill guide you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm beyond confused noww lol...

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

you have (2x-1)^1/3 = 1 yes? your goal is to get the x on one side only..so you take away the exponent..how? by cubing it :DD now cube

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sooo 8x^3+1=1

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

no no.. when you cube it..the 1/3 gets canceled. 2x-1 = 1 get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. then you divide 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the it will still equal 0

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

oh no..2x - 1 = 1 2x = 1 + 1

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

oh wait...it's positive??? im sorry you were right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! :D that makes me happy. hahah Thanks for your help! I actually understand :D

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

<tips hat>

Like a mathematical genius. (:
