to find the degree of a polynomial you add all exponents or what rule am I supposed to follow?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you add the exponents of each term (only the variables, not the constants). the degree of the polynomial is the degree of the term with the highest degree.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok,, so for ex 2 x^4 + 4 x^2 y X^4 would be the degree

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 would be the degree of the polynomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x^4 would be the leading term because it has the highest degree

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the degree of 4x^2y is 3
