hello,i want to ask something.i want to take petroleum engineering after finish my matriculation.but i heard that the job for this course is limited and i'm so worry about it.can anybody give their opinion for this course?
see its true that u have limited jobs. but there are limited colleges having this branch. if u take this branch u will surely get job with very high salary. but u cant expect aeasy life bcz u will be working in seas mountains and rough areas. if u can tolerate tis then u surely take it.
Hi ZackM, You might also do some research so you are familiar with the long-term possibilities in your field. Consider, for example, what your job prospects might be if you end up moving to a non-coastal area. Will there be job prospects wherever you live, or does this field limit you to living in specific areas? I never imaged I'd end up living on the other side of the country. You can do some research on your own by looking in places like the Occupational Handbook. Here is a link specifically for petroleum engineering: http://www.bls.gov/ooh/architecture-and-engineering/petroleum-engineers.htm This type of publication usually includes employment projections, average salary, etc. I'm no career counselor (you might talk to one) but you might think about what kinds of work you enjoy doing, and then do some research to see if this fits with what these engineers do. There is no point in spending the time and/or money investing in a field you don't think you will truly enjoy. Some things are more important than a big salary! Hope this helps.
One more suggestion - try connecting to some people who work in the field for a living so you can ask them questions. No one knows the job better than the person who does it every day. It's always a good idea to have a few informational interviews so you know what to expect.
