Mary picks 15 flowers from her garden. If 3 out of 5 of these flowers are yellow, how many yellow flowers does Mary pick? Explain your answer:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If we look at the total amount of flowers Mary picked, it's 15, right? If we pick up 5 flowers, 3 of these flowers will be yellow. What if we picked up all 15 flowers? We'd just expand the ratio by 3. 5 x 3 = 15 flowers Because we multiplied by 3, we also have to multiply the 3 flowers that are yellow by 3. So we'd have 9 yellow flowers. Therefore, 9 yellow flowers out of a total 15 flowers. Also, I'm half-Korean, therefore Korean swag back to you.
