This is the linear inequality that I have to solve: 2 − 3x < | x − 3| My notes tell me that I have to square both sides to obtain the answer. What is the rationale behind this?

when you square a (real) number you always get a positive answer the absolute value of a expression gives the positive bit and disregards the sign ie positive becomes positive,& negative becomes positive
