OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was macromolecules because A molecule is a particle made up of at least two atoms, and represents the smallest unit of a compound while exhibiting all the properties of that compound. A macromolecule is a molecule that has a diameter up to 1,000 times greater than molecules found in most substances. While a wide range of substances, from plastics to diamonds, are composed of macromolecules, common macromolecules include those that are crucial for living cell functions.
