5a < 2 ( - 12) subtracted 12 from both sides to get rid of the 12 on the left 5a < -10 to seperate into the form a = something we need to divide a by 5, but when you do that you will always do it on both sides (just like with the subtracting so we get a < -10/5 -10/5 is -2 try it on the other one
