OpenStudy (kymber):

What's the surface area formula for a prism with a square base?

OpenStudy (kymber):

I looked online but it's not really workin' out for me e.e

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Prism area = 2*area of triangle + 2*area of sides(rectangle) + area of bottom(rectangle)

OpenStudy (kymber):

I don't think it's a pyramid?

OpenStudy (hoblos):

S = 2B + PH B= area of base P= perimeter of base H= height

OpenStudy (experimentx):

the area of triangle = 1/2* 5 * height

OpenStudy (experimentx):

the area of rectangles at sides = 5 * (sqrt(5^2+10^2))

OpenStudy (experimentx):

the area of base square will be usual, and the area of rectangle at side is calculated using pythagoras formula

OpenStudy (hoblos):

S = 2(5*5) + (5+5+5+5)(10) =50 + 200 = 250 cm^2 <---- notice it is ^2 not ^3

OpenStudy (kymber):

Thanks @hoblos! Is it weird that it's the same as the volume? o.o

OpenStudy (hoblos):

since we are dealing with area.. it is always cm^2 and yw :)

OpenStudy (experimentx):

Now i am confused .. what was the picture like??

OpenStudy (hoblos):

it is like a box..

OpenStudy (experimentx):

LOL ... i was thinking prism with a base of square was quite unheard of.
