"With my eyes firmly closed, rain feels like feathers". This is an example of: A) Personification B) Alliteration C) Symbolism D) Flashback

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B seems like the right answer to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. The attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman, or the representation of an abstract quality in... 2. A figure intended to represent an abstract quality.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is a very interesting sentence... I don't think that it is personification because there are no human characteristics being attributed towards the rain... Symbolism would require context for what the symbol represents and flashback is incorrect. I agree with purity11, the answer is B) alliteration because: "With my eyes Firmly closed, rain Feels like Feathers"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with purity11 and wombat. It is B) Alliteration.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is indeed an alliteration.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@cutter10 Something comparing two unlike things using 'like' or 'as' is a SIMILE, not PERSONIFICATION.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So is the answer A or B!?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is B. Nothing is being personified. Personification is where a nonhuman object is given attributes of a human. For example, "the leaves danced in the wind". Leaves cannot dance, but humans can. Therefore the leaves are being personified. The answer is B.

IGNORE THST LAST POST IT IS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No you are saying that rain is a feather you are comparing something that can move to something that cant it is AAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In the above sentence, the rain is compared to feeling life feathers. The texture of a feather is not a human trait, so the rain is not being personified.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@cutter10 Clearly you do not know the difference between 'simile' and 'personification'. Please learn the difference.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Since it cannot be D or A, it must be B right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no! @wombat show me where it repeats something over and over again?!?! This is alliteration : The bird picked, and picked, picked like it was his last days, picked like he was dying, picked like he had an itch he cant scratch, pick to feed his family..." that is alliteration!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because you use the same word/phrase/letter over and over!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You mentioned you are in 6th grade. Perhaps you were not taught this or you simply have confused the two. Alliteration is the repetition of a consonant / consonant sound at the beginning of successive words in a clause or phrase. In the sentence, the 'f' sound is repeated. What you have written is repetition and a form of anaphora.
