what is the definition of integration and fr what does the symbol stand for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The concept of Integral varies a lot; it may have a geometrical interpretation, an analytical interpretation, etc. Personally, I think that it's more intuitive to think of an integral as a sum of very small pieces, infinitesimal pieces. It's just a Riemmanian sum evaluated as n goes to infinity. The symbol is a S from old typography. S for "sum".

here's one definition, given a function defined on a closed interval, the integral of that function is defined as the unique number I such that for all partitions P, this inequality holds: L(f, P) <= I <= U(f, P) where L is the lower sum and U is the upper sum. Sufficient?
