What process is used to keep extracellular fluid balanced/constant?
Hi Khensi96 The short answer is that cells have selectively permeable plasma membranes that separate fluids into distinct compartments, "sorting" water from electrolytes, for example. This interactive learning object might help explain the process http://www.wisc-online.com/Objects/ViewObject.aspx?ID=NUR1203 If you're looking for something more in depth, here is a resource on fluid physiology http://www.anaesthesiamcq.com/FluidBook/fl2_1.php Hope this helps
the lymphatic system. it drains excessive interstitial fluid and returns it to the blood system. generally speaking the interstitium is similar to plasma in tis content (minus most of the proteins)
Great answers^! On the cellular level, I imagine the Sodium / Potassium pump and "leaky" ion channels play a role in balancing fluid content as well.
