salinity makes the water denser which in turn help in floating (dead sea) . it also triggers osmosis by which water will be removed from the fish's body. higher salinity means higher mineral content this is all i know

Low salinity can also have an impact on many organisms.

If you look at micro-organisms that live in fresh water, they all(?) have contractile vacuoles. These look a lot like food vacuoles, but if you watch a living Paramecium or Amoeba under the microscope, sooner or later the vacuole will disappear and then reappear again a short time later. Do you have any idea what the purpose of these contractile vacuoles might be?
