What is the domain and range of the function y = 2√3x + 4 - 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the square root over 3x+4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The square root is over 3x + 4 - 5. Do I have to solve that problem first to find the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't mention anything negative. That's a subtraction sign. I'll attach the problem. 1.3 isn't a choice. Where would I begin to solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Apologies, 1/3 is not an answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because it is a square root, it can't be negative. So, 3x+4 can't be negative. That means 3x can't be less than -4. That means x can't be less than -4/3. So, the domain is x >= -4/3. Range is the value of y for all those values of x. But, essentially, y is going to be -5 or greater because the "least" SQRT(3x+4) can be is zero.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sqrt is over just 3x+4 in the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I had thought the square root was over - 5. That really helped. Thanks!
