Which of the following correctly describes how pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation differ? Answer In pulmonary circulation, deoxygenated blood is pumped from the heart's left ventricle, while in systemic circulation, oxygenated blood is pumped from the heart's right ventricle. In pulmonary circulation, deoxygenated blood is pumped from the heart's right ventricle, while in systemic circulation, oxygenated blood is pumped from the heart's left ventricle. In pulmonary circulation, oxygenated blood is pumped from the heart's left ventricle, while in systemic circulation, deoxygenated blood is pumped from the heart's right ventricle. In pulmonary circulation, oxygenated blood is pumped from the heart's right ventricle, while in systemic circulation, deoxygenated blood is pumped from the heart's left ventricle.

I'll give you a clue - the left ventricle is the more powerful because it has to pump the blood through the systemic circulation, whereas the right only has to pump blood round the pulmonary circulation (lungs). The lungs oxygenate the blood and so the answer should be clear - there is one option which describes the process well. Let me know if you need more help

OK it goes like this: the left ventricle is the stronger and it pumps oxygenated blood round the body. The oxygen gets used up so the deoxygenated blood returns to the heart into the right ventricle. The right ventricle pumps the blood through the lungs so the blood is oxygenated again and can go to provide oxygen to the muscles and organs. The pulmonary circulation is the one round the lungs while the systemic circulation is round the body. I hope that clears it up - the answer should be clear now.

so its this one: In pulmonary circulation, deoxygenated blood is pumped from the heart's left?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not quite - in pulmonary circulation deoxygenated blood is pumped from the heart's right ventricle.
