no never, fungus do not have this capacity at all. they are heterotrophs and as such must take food from another sources of organic molecules.

as a matter of fact, they can release digestive enzymes to the exterior to help them degrade the big molecules to smaller components.

Well, the actual question is asking in what ways are the fungi different from the fungus-like protists?  

I think it is the fact that fungi cannot photosynthesize. 

It either that the fungi all reproduce from spores, the fungi are all multicellular organisms, the fungi cannot photosynthesize or the fungi must take in nutrients from their environment.

Fungi are decomposers. They break down nutrients and absorb them.
