Can anyone help me with this question??? it will be very helpful thank you Aphids, ants and plants interact with one another through symbiotic relationships. Aphids are small insects that poke holes in plants and suck out sap. Aphids may cause the plant’s leaves to wilt and curl. Ants protect aphids and eat the sugary liquid that aphids produce. Choose two of the organisms in this symbiosis. Describe the relationship between the two organisms in terms of the benefit or harm to each organism.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Relationships fall under several categories...you have mutualism (+/+), parasitism (+/-), commensalism (+/0), and amensalism (-/0); there are some more, I think. The plus means one party is benefiting, the minus means one party is being hurt, and the 0 means no change. So for example, you could take the aphids and the ants. Ask yourself - are the ants being helped or hurt? They're getting food, so that's a + for them! Now for the other party - are the aphids getting helped or hurt (or neither)? They're getting protection, so that's also a +! Two parties mutually benefiting; you have mutualism. Try it out with two other parties from the three.

It helps us help you understand the answer if you explain what you don't understand about the question. Is it that you don't understand the question or you don't understand @kma230's response?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont understand @kma230 response

OpenStudy (blues):

OK, so the first paragraph of the response gives you info about the general relationships which can exist between two organisms. Is a relationship good for both species? Does it hurt one but help the other? Is that much clear?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yess thank you

OpenStudy (blues):

OK, then the second paragraph is an example. It describes how to interpret the info in the first paragraph in terms of one of the three species (ants) you have been given. It describes the relationship between ants and plants, and ants and aphids. The part of the question left for you to do (using the info and example as a guide) is to interpret the relationship between plants and aphids.
