Just wanted to point out - bacteria and fungi can also have cell walls, except they're not the same types of walls as plants have. But, they do serve similar functions. Bacteria have walls made up of cross-linked sugars and amino acids....fungi have walls made up of chitin, many nitrogen-containing sugars linked together, and plants have walls compsoed of cellulose, basically long chains of glucose.

what is cell membrane

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A cell membrane is the lipid bilayer surrounding the cell and basically separating what's inside from the environment...it's selectively permeable - only certain things can go in or out. The cell wall goes around the cell membrane.
