when is "qtd. in" necessary for documentation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is called "Indirect Quotation", according to the MLA format. The use of "qtd. in" comes in handy when a source is cited in another source. Now, I know that sounds confusing so let me give you an example. Example: The source is "What Do Rabbits Eat?" by: Peter Cottontail Below is an excerpt from page 59. "According to Mother Nature, "rabbits are meant to eat carrots to enhance their eyesight" (qtd. in Cottontail 59)." I hope this helps you. If not, feel free to message me.
