point that connects duplicated chromosomes during mitosis/meiosis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The centromere is the region* of the chromosome that links sister chromatids. The kinetochore is the actual protein structure* that holds the two together. Does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i have another question what are strings that stretch from one end to other end of cell during mitosis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Collectively they're known as the spindle apparatus. The spindle apparatus has several parts....you have the aster fibers, the kinetochore microtubules (these connect directly to the kinetochores and pull the chromosomes) and the polar fibers which overlap in the middle and push the two soon-to-be cells apart...Look at the second picture at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spindle_apparatus It gives you a much better visual.
