Someone know who was the first person to work with, or who discovered, the buffers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like..."mixture of a weak acid and its conjugate base or a weak base and its conjugate acid" type of buffer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

Alright! With the almighty power of Google...I can supply you with a half-decent answer. "His [Friedenthal's] paper is of interest in another respect in that it contains the first reference to the use of a buffer solution." pg. 262 "Friedenthal, Hans Wilhelm, was born in Breslau in 1870. He studied in Heidelberg..." pg. 279 Source: http://books.google.com/books?id=53APqy0KDaQC&pg=PA420&lpg=PA420&dq=History+of+Analytical+Chemistry+By+Ferenc+Szabadv%C3%A1ry&source=bl&ots=fAA8JHXFKj&sig=Qw0_AWHIJ-_8hW2I_ZQP5JuZPJ0&hl=en&sa=X&ei=8o6IT9DKE4rW0QHD9ZG4CQ&ved=0CCwQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q&f=false Not much other information on this guy...he has a wiki page in German, but I think that's about it. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Wilhelm_Carl_Friedenthal

Hm..try this - on the left, scroll down and find that search tab? Type in.."buffer" or something. It should bring up the results, from which you can peruse through to find the appropriate info.
