-4^-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1/4^2=?

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

If we have something this we always consider, -(4)^-2 Same as we get sometimes, x+2/x It means, \[x + \frac 2x\]

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

\[a^{-n} = \frac 1 {a^n}\]

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

@vi3tbloodxx that's wrong. :l

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

did i understand the question wrong?

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

No, I didnt i guess.

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

that is the answer for, (-4)^(-2) = 1/(-4)^2 = 1/16 Whereas, -4^-2 = -1/4^2 = -1/16

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

@apoorvk you are correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's the difference between -4^-2 and -(4^-2) and (-4)^(-2) ?

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

\[\Large -4^{-2} = -(4^{-2}) = -\frac{1}{(-4)^2} = -\frac{1}{16}\] -(4^-2) same as above \[\Large (-4)^{-2} \to (\frac{1}{4})^2 = \frac{1}{16}\]
