Conditional Statement: If x = 2, then x2 = 4 State the converse of the conditional statement and determine whether it is true or false.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if x2 = 4 then x =2. It's false, because x^2 = 4 => x is -2 or x is 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x can be 2 numbers, -2 or 2, so the statement is not NECESSARILY true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Unless considering contingencies, it's false, as it's not followed from the condition, i.e., it's not true that, if x^2 = 4, x = 2. At least, that's what I remember from logic. It's a similar statement to this: "I was born in America, therefore, I am American." It's false that it implies that if I am American, I was born in America.
