OpenStudy (sanaelshazly):

a large parallel plate capacitor with plates that are square with side length 5.53 cm and are separated by a distance of 5.38 mm is dropped and damaged. Half of the areas of the two plates are pushed closer together to a distance of 2.69 mm. What is the capacitance of the damaged capacitor ??

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

we do have formulas for it.. i bet its not a difficult question.. area of capacitor and distance btwn them is changed.. play with formulas.. sorry, i forgot them..

ThnQQ !

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I really don't know why someone would even post that... Hold on I'm looking up some info in this

OpenStudy (turingtest):

ok the formula you want is\[C={\epsilon_0A\over d}\]would you like some derivation?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

where A is the are of the plate and d is the distance between them

OpenStudy (ujjwal):

do you really need to say what A and d is?? @TuringTest .. lol

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I figure different notations are used in different countries here's a good source of this info, as well as the derivation of this formula http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/physics/8-02sc-physics-ii-electricity-and-magnetism-fall-2010/capacitance-capacitors-energy-stored-in-capacitors/MIT8_02SC_notes10to11.pdf
