what are the two main source of energy on earth that can drive ecosystems

OpenStudy (carniel):

Fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) and nuclear fuel (uranium) If you want to know more Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_two_main_sources_of_energy#ixzz1sIhAmjJe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the main source of energy responsible for driving the ecosystem is solar energy (energy obtained from the sun).all the other energies are derived from it. for eg, chemical energy of food is also derived from solar energy with the help of photosynthesis. however, the ecosystem of deep trenches of the sea are driven by chemical and geothermal energies. the main source of energy that drives an ecosystem mainly depends on the type of ecosystem. the sun is the major source in most of the case following food.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Carniel, that's sources of energy, not sources of energy that drive ecosystems. That's a very crucial difference. An equatic ecosystem would gain no benefit from fossil fuels or nuclear fuel.

The only two main sources of energy on earth that I know are the sun and the interior of the earth

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Solar energy is definitely one; what about ecosystems where solar energy can't penetrate? Primary producers that use solar energy are called photoautotrophs. What other kind of autotroph is there? That's the second answer.

OpenStudy (carniel):

Lol ok then its Producers and Sun

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Chemoautotrophs get their energy from chemicals to turn carbon dioxide into food (organic carbon). Photoautotrophs get their energy from sunlight to turn carbon dioxide into food. Therefore, the two primar sources of energy to drive ecosystems is light energy and chemical energy. All other organisms in the ecosystem get their energy from either photoautotrophs or chemoautotrophs, depending on the ecosystem.
