Hi, i'm planning to make a labyrinth game, with a random wall generator and intelligent agents. Which language do you think is better to work with it? Java or Flash? And why?
Java is a more stable language and more formal, but flash easy the interface developing. I belive it depends in the focus of your application and your experience in each language
I'd probably do Flash, because I dislike working in Java. Honestly, it's a matter of whichever you're most comfortable with.
If you would like to use the game in a portfolio for getting into the games industry, C++ is the industry's language of choice. If it's just for fun, I would lean towards Java. Flash is okay, but I personally do not enjoy it as much as Java. Java has the virtual machine so that anyone can play your game, as opposed to needing to get Flash in order to run it. But shadowfiend is right. It's about personal preference. What language do you like to use?
First of all, Flash is not a language. So knowing nothing else about you, I'd assume you are a beginning programmer, in which case I would recommend Python, and work with just text output initially. Why can you only choose between these two languages? You really need to tell us more about you; people are assuming all kinds of things, like you want this to add to your game industry portfolio. And whatever language _they_ are most comfortable with, which will not help _you_ a whole lot. Based on the little information you have us, assuming Turing-complete languages, I'd say pick the language you're most comfortable with. If that happens to be Java or Actionscript, choose that.
@nczempin I did not assume anything, I just thought it'd be helpful to know just in case. Other people had already pointed out the personal preference thing so instead of beating a dead horse I felt I should add something new. Also, Flash might not be a programming language, but it's not hard to understand what they meant. People do refer to it as Flash Programming, so it is understandable that it was thought to be a language. You also asked why he could only choose between Java and Actionscript. He wasn't saying that he could only choose one and we need to tell him which one. He was asking for our opinion. Sometimes it's nice to just know other people's opinions before you try out something new.
"_Which_ language do you think is _better_ to work with it? Java or Flash?" just asks to choose between two languages. "Which language should I choose for my project, I know Java and Flash/Actionscript but I'm willing to learn another one which may be more appropriate" would be more open to alternatives. The main point I was trying to make, however, was that the answers saying "I am more comfortable in Java" give _him_ absolutely no help in deciding what's right for _him_.
