How do you write a polynomial in factored form given an x-intercept?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if say r is an x intercept then it factors as \[(x-r)(\text{something})\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the "something" you can find by division

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then if (-3, 0) was an x intercept of x^3+4x^2-17x-60 I would get (x+3)(and then the divided portion)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thats correct. :)

okay thank you! (:
