Good at accounting? Sorry; I can't even account for myself! :(

At the top, we are told in stockholders’ equity accounts: Common Stock ($5 stated value, 300,000 shares authorized) 1,000,000 That is $1,000,000 dollars at $5 per share, so 200,000 shares issued. Then Feb. 1 Issued 5,000 shares of common stock for $30,000. Total common stock issued: 205,000 shares We are also told Treasury Stock—Common (5,000 shares) 40,000 and Mar. 20 Purchased 1,000 additional shares of common treasury stock at $7 per share. so the total Treasury Stock (Common) is 6000 shares. From Wikipedia A treasury stock or reacquired stock is stock which is bought back by the issuing company, reducing the amount of outstanding stock on the open market ("open market" including insiders' holdings). The issued shares are the sum of outstanding shares and treasury shares. Accordingly, issued shares 205,000= treasury (6000) + outstanding so outstanding must be 199,000
