what does meiosis produce?
does is produce gametes
please help i got a quix 2mroow in bio
any answers
Yes, it does produce gametes in diploid animals. More specifically though it produces 2 haploid cells.
sorry, it produces 4 haploid cells I think, not 2.
sex cells
Sex cells in humans, but that's not the only instances of meiosis I don't think. @blues, do you know, or can someone else help me out here. Meiosis happens in more than just formation of gametes right?
Meiosis only occurs in formation of gametes. One diploid cell fated to become an egg or a sperm goes through a round of DNA rep; it then goes through two rounds of meiosis without further DNA replication to create four haploid gametes.
I knew the process, but I thought other organisms used it as well. It's been a few years since I took bio, For some reason I can remember all the steps of meiosis, but not why it's done. Thanks.
In higher diploid organisms, meiosis produces haploid gametes (in us, eggs and sperm). In order to get offspring, you have to have fertilization of haploid gametes. he offspring are created when a sperm cell (n, 23 chroms) meets an egg cell (n, 23 chroms), and they fuse, n + n = 2n (and 46 chroms) The sperm (monitoring male gamete) and ovum (stationary female gamete) are both produced by meiosis, that is why they contain 23 chromosomes, because in meiosis there are haploid cells
Not a prob. ;D
