How do you figure out that if you go to pi/2 and go add 2pi it will be 5pi/2

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

pi/2 + 2pi pi/2 + 2pi*(2/2) pi/2 + 4pi/2 (pi + 4pi)/2 5pi/2 So pi/2 + 2pi = 5pi/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where does the (2/2) come from?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I want the denominator of 2pi to be 2. So I multiply it by 2/2 (which is essentially 1) to get it there.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

I'm doing this so I can add the fractions. Remember you can only add fractions if the denominators are equal.

ok thanks!
