Given the folllowing lines: Line a, passes through points (-3,-1) and (3,2) Line b, passes through points (5,5) and (1,-3) Line c, x=2y Line d, 2x+y=-4 Name a pair of parallel lines and a pair of perpendicular lines.

parallel lines : A with B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c and d are perpendicular line c can be written y = x/2 - the slope is 1/2 line d can de written y = -2x -4 - the slope is -2 they are perpendicular because slope of c = -1/slope of d recall that if slope of line is m then slope of a line perpendicular to it is -1/m.

you find the slope of a and b from the given coordinates by calculating (y2 - y1 ) / ( x2 - x1) where the coods are (x1,y1) and (x2, y2) - if these slope are equal then lines are parallel
