Purple loosestrife is an invasive plant that was brought to the United States in the 1800s. Which of the following describes the most likely long-term consequence of the introduction of purple loosestrife? Herbivores will overpopulate due to an abundant food source. Native plant populations will decrease as they are choked out by the purple loosestrife. Purple loosestrife will begin to crossbreed with native plant species. Air quality will improve as a result of the increased rate of photosynthesis.
Ahh, good old purple loosestrife. It was a huge problem in Canada maybe 10 or 15 years ago. I remember seeing it growing in all the ditches beside the highways, and it completely ruined a pond where my family used to go for walks, but it seems to be less of a problem now. I haven't seen that much of it in recent years and the pond has returned to normal. I guess the government/environmental organisation efforts to get it under control have had at least some success.
In terms of answering the question, one of these options is much better than the others. When an invasive species is introduced into an ecosystem, it will start taking up resources which were otherwise used by local species....
It´s B, right?
