Can somone show/help me with this please.

Any specific problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nuhuh. Just need help with all of them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well how about I go over some basic principles and I'll let you try to apply those to these problems. First major principle. Group like terms: 3x + 2x = 3+5 Rewrite as: 5x = 8 Second major principle. Isolate x. Get x by itself: The way to do this is to undo operations that get done to x. For example, in 5x=8 x is multiplied by 5. To undo this, I do the opposite, which is to divide by 5. Whatever I do to one side, I have to do to the other, so it looks like (5x)/5 = 8/5 x = 8/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3rd major principle: To add or subtract two fractions, you must first get a like denominator x/4 + x/5 = 6 (x/4) = (5x/20) (x/5) = (4x/20) so (5x/20) + (4x/20) = 6 (9x/20) = 6 multiplying both sides by 20 gives 9x = 6*20 dividing both sides by 9 gives x = 120/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So for number 43: where do i start?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4n-(n+6) = 12-36 Start by trying to group some like terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Show me your try at that. Get all the n terms on the left and all the others grouped on the right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 5n=(-18) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I get: 4n - (n+6) = 12-36 4n - n - 6 = -24 4n - n = -18 3n = -18 So the only thing you did wrong was add 4n - n = 3n. Not 5n.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you see that? 3n = -18 And what would I do to get n by itself?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok, my mistake. So divide by 3? and you get n=-18/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes =D and -18/3 = -6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, okay. (: So the next one, you would rewrite as -6x+9=20-4x right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes! =D Now group like terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you get -10x=29 then / by -10 on both sides. and you get x=29/-10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No hold on. How do I move -4x from the right side to the left side? I need to do the opposite of -4x to both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you do -6x+4x which gives me -2x=11 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes =) Because to move the +9 over to the right side, I do -9 to both sides. Good. So now I'm at -2x = 11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide -2 from both sides, and i get x=- 11/2 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yusss.
