A paramecium feeds on organic matter in a pond. How does it capture food?
A.) using flagella B.) using cilia C.) using pseudopodia
using cilia the hair picks up the organic matter so the answer is B
hope that helps :)
A Paramecium is a ciliate, so that means they have cilia instead of flagella or pseudopodia. They're cute little guys, actually.. they often look kind of furry under the microscope because their entire bodies are covered in thousands of tiny cilia. The cilia beat to move the Paramecium around, and if you watch, you'll see a lot of cilia activity in the mouth region, and you might even see food (e.g. bacteria) being transported into the mouth. Here's a video to show you what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4aZE5FQ284 The body cilia aren't particularly visible in that video, but the mouth and vacuoles are easy to see. Note the contractile vacuoles too! Those are the vacuoles at both ends of the cell that disappear suddenly and then reform: their job is to push water out of the cell so it doesn't burst.
