Solve by using the quadratic formula to solve x2 + 6x = –3. Quick help please??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If z=1, b=6, and c=3....I can break it down to -6+/- radical 24 over 2...but idk what to do after that...

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

You can further simplify \[x=(-6 \pm \sqrt{24})/2=-3\pm2\sqrt{6}\]

OpenStudy (pfenn1):

\[2\sqrt{6}\approx4.9\] so \[x \approx1.9, -7.9\]
