Find the equation for a line that passes through the point (8,6) and is perpendicular to v = -9i +5j

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its been a while since i've done this, so forgive me if i et this wrong lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh my bad, I thought that this was in 3D. this is pretty simple then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I tried using point slope: y-y1 = m(x -x1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what did you use as your slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

With a perp. slope of 1/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the slope of the vector is -5/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so to be perpendicular to that, the slope of your new line needs to be 9/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AHHH!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9/5x - 72/5 +6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Got it right.. sweet. Thanks guys. So i/j is the slope on these vectors? What if there was to be a k?
