Physically, what does the divergence of a field represent? How does an understand of the physical representation help you with the mathematics involved?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@anonymoustwo44 can u help me out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahah u r here

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I'm currently infinitely bored

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the problem ? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha if i wld know i wldnt be asking lol. Like its just a prep question so i havent learnt the material yet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah ok sure what is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like i posted the question above lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahahahhaha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do u see the question or shld i repost it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no I cant see :))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i hope u r not pulling my leg lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah ok. the divergence represents source rate. it measures how much is the source or sink at a point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so example, if I have a container of air and I heated this, so the air will expand, and so its divergence is positive and if I cooled it, it will sink or contract so its divergence is negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh so its all abt density of matter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it measures outgoingness

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and other things :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh i like the word outgoingness its cool

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like when thor smashes hammer to floor, there will be a force field on the floor. and we know that the force magnitude decreases as it goes in all direction away from where thor hit the floor, so that will have negative divergence

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok got it Thanks. That was great explanation :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I hope not too weird though :))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nah i posted one response already and i will post this too. Its fine its just a preparation thingy i am not marked if its correct but if i did it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks :) This site is causing my comp to act crazy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there earthquake?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol it causes like IE not to work and all my tabs like close idk it always causes me problems. I shld switch browsers but i am lazy

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

I'll pop in to say two things. 1. You should switch to chrome 2. @anonymoustwo44 That was an excellent explanation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahahahahaah Thanks :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@KingGeorge. ^-^ thanks didn't know thor would help a lot:))
