describe conditions of equilibrium?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In simple words...equilibrium occurs when work done is ZERO. Equilibrium is also when the net force AND torque acting on a body is zero

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

there is not net change once equilibrium has been reached

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a particle is said to be in equilibrium when the vector sum of all the external forces acting on it is zero and also when there is no net torque on it.in such a situation the particle Newton's first law is applicable and also there is no change in its angular velocity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

linear momentum and angular momentum are conserved when the particle is in equilibrium

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would define that a body is in equilibrium when all the forces acting on it cancel out or NET FORCE on the body is zero here g\force refers to all the rotational force=== torque when linear add up to 0 we call the body is in TRANSLATIONAL EQUILIBRIUM net torque =0 ROTATIONAL EQUILIBRIUM equilibrium = sum of tehse two

OpenStudy (mos1635):

and all that because you have posted the question in physicks group. in chemistry you would get a totaly different answer :) :)
