Combine like terms. (-3y2 - 7y - 9) - (4y2 + 6y + 9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you get rid of the parentheses? multiply everything in that right term by -1 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No /: i cant..... and all rite thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, to complicate it a little before we simplify it, that thing means \[(1)(-3y^2-7y-9)+(-1)(4y^2+6y+9)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

on that first part, multiplying by 1 is easy.... everything stays the same but on that second part, you multiply everything by -1... which flips the sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you get rid of those parentheses now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh yaa i think i got it now, thanks
