If tan x ̊=3 divided by y and cos x ̊=y divided by z, what is the value of tan x°?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

let me clarify... \(\tan x = \frac{3}{y}\) and \(\cos x = \frac{y}{z}\) right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yess.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

and you're asking for tan x?? isnt it a given already :P

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

or do you mean sin x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question says tan but the answer choices say sin..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. sin x°=3 divided by z B. sin x°=3y C. sin x°=z divided by 3 D. sin x ̊= 3z

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

oh lol must've been a typo..they're looking for sin x... well let me tell you that tan x = opposite/adjacent since tanx = 3/y we can see that opposite = 3 and adjacent = y are you with me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol yes, kind of..

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

good...so let's look at cosine...cosx = adjacent/hypotenuse since cosx = y/z this means that adjacent is y and hypotenuse is z

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

so now you have values of opposite, hypotenuse and adjacent...but to solve sine you need sinx = opposite/hypotenuse

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh I got it..so the opposite is 3 and the hypotenuse is z, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer is sin x= 3/z?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

Thanks :)

happy to help ^_^ <tips imaginary hat>
