solve: 3x^2-16x-7=5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use the quadratic eq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. do I need to make it eqaul 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, move the 5 to the left side of the eq and then use the quad eq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what I mean is subtract 5 from both sides and then use the quad eq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me know what you get, ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x^2-16x-7=5 -5 -5 3x^2-16x-12=0 (x-6)(3x+2)=0 x= 6, -2/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

real good!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the onlyy problem that I have is when I substitute the answer's I only get the correct one with the first solution for x and when I try to do it with the fraction i get confused. do I need to make it a decimal or what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hand on a second

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they both work. you are probably using a negative when you should be using a positive for -2/3^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. I used a positive but I may have did it wrong but I did get the answer right. Thanks a lot!!!
