help finding vertex, focus, directrix for parablola?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are two forms: (x-h)^2 = 4p(y-k) (y-k)^2 = 4p(x-h) in both forms, (h, k) is your vertex. p is your distance from your vertex to your focus. it can also tell which way the parabola opens depending on whether its positive/negative. the directrix is just the opposite direction of the focus.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and what is h and what is k and p ??? i don't understand this part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

h, k are the coordinates to your vertex.

ok i have an example do you wanna help me maybe i would understand it if you explain it :) and thank you for helping

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok it's asking to find the vertex, focus and directrix and the equations is : x^2 + 6y = 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok.. notice the x is squared so we have the first type: (x-h)^2 = 4p(y-k)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok
