Atheists: How best can we create communities that foster acceptance through common values? I've always been a misfit. Religion would appeal to me if I were less carnally inclined and more inclined to suspend disbelief. But I am neither of these things, so I wound up an atheistic agnostic - and find myself very alone. Not on the Internet, of course, but in the real world, where it matters.

Why are you asking this in the biology section? I'm just curious that's all
That's one of the many reasons why I, as a life-long atheist/agnostic, started going to church and began to entertain the notion that maybe, just maybe, I'd been wrong to think I had all the answers. If you do decide to try religion, just make sure you pick a sensible religion/denomination, one which will let you love and worship God without turning your brain off. That's what I found, and it has really improved my life. Otherwise... I'd avoid the official atheist groups if I were you: I'm sure there are some nice people in them, but I think it's so unhealthy to spend time with people who share only a LACK of belief and/or a hatred of some other group. Much better to find a hobby. Or if you want a bit of spirituality without an actual religion, you could try something like yoga.
May be!!
