The following test scores were recorded for a student: 90, 82, 78, 78, 90, 92. Find the mean, median, and mode.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

She is asking this question, without understanding the concept. Please nobody give her the answer.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Fool, lets not pass judgement in that manner please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look i'm trying what is your problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got mean-85 median-78 mode-92

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64: Check her recent questions. I was trying to help her when someone else drop in the answer and she left.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you weren't helping you were being annoying at least they showed me how they got the answer

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@cherry_pie you have done well with the first two. What's mode?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im well aware of that, but that does not excuse your conduct. There are simply nicer ways to present it. imo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mode is that number which repeats highest number of times in the series

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is really annoying if i got the answer wrong can you show me how you got the right answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why don't you enlighten me @amistre64?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@cherry_pie which test score appears the most no. of times?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought 92

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am i wrong?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

"Please nobody give her the answer." Regardless of what you meant by this, it comes across as harsh; and with your title of moderator, it leads to a sense of a demand rather than advice to me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Cherry_pie first thing that you have to do is to arrange the series in ascending order

OpenStudy (ash2326):

78 appears twice and 90 also appears twice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeh...u r wrong

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@cherry_pie what do you think is the mode?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i just noticed that lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

90, 82, 78, 78, 90, 92 in ascending order it can be written as 78, 78, 82, 90, 90, 92

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Regarding my earlier comment: Here: http://openstudy.com/users/cherry_pie#/updates/4fa00de4e4b029e9dc310b84 The user claim to be have understanding of mode, "mode-is the one that appear more often" but still she was having trouble in understanding the meaning. I was trying to help her but suddenly the user @sheg dropped in the answer and she left. I don't know about anybody else but it's tad annoying. Hence, I said "Please nobody give her the answer". Hope this clarifies everything!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

median is 86 mode (78+90)/2=84 mean=(78+78+82+90+90+92)/6

OpenStudy (amistre64):

trusted, your mode is wrong

OpenStudy (amistre64):

this is bi-modal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Although, it wasn't something meant to be interpreted in a harsh way but the above behavior demonstrated by sheg is a violation of our CoC: This is direct violation of code of conduct "Don't just provide the answer to a problem when someone else is in the middle of helping!"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, all I wanted is to make sure this doesn't happen again.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Fool, itll be ok :) and im pretty sure it will happen again :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

amistre dats a lie

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Trusted, do you want to throw accusations with no proof about? or do you want to back up your answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mi bad....82+90/2=86...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

that good for the median yes; what about the mode?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mode is 78+90/2...78 n 90 appear twice.....168/2=84

OpenStudy (amistre64):

mode is not an average of modes ... http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=mode&a=*C.mode-_*MathWorld-

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if 2 or more amounts are used the same number of times; the mode is defined as the set of them, and not the average of them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so wats he solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we are here to learn

OpenStudy (amistre64):

http://www.purplemath.com/modules/meanmode.htm its the set of the numbers used the same number of times ... mode = 78,90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Next time I am going to wear my moderators cap ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@foolformath in that question i never typed the answer i just told what is the meaning of mean, median and mode you can see

OpenStudy (amistre64):

unless of course all the numbers are used once, then its simply no mode ... which seems confusing to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kkkk

OpenStudy (amistre64):

am i still a "liar" :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m not here to fight i have got certain good friends here so m in no mood to spoil it so @foolformath i m no mood to lose some good friends over this small issue so i will do one thing if u feel i was wrong its ok and i accept it m sorry for it right now are you happy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sheg: From your answer: "we are having 7 terms so median is the4th term i.e., 84" "Mode is that term which repeats highest number of times and in this series it is 86" I am sure that you are aware of the fact that your answer doesn't help OP to understand the concept as that entails this question and her next question : http://openstudy.com/users/cherry_pie#/updates/4fa01274e4b029e9dc3111b9 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64 i need your help

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im sure you do, but im not very good at mindreading yet; its all i can do to do correctly interpret the written word lately :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AMISTRE64...

OpenStudy (amistre64):
