Divide. (18x^3 + 12x – 3x) ÷ 6x^2 Really confused on how to do this, If you could go step by step it would really help .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are u still there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r u sure that you have written the question correctly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. so within the parens, you can combine 12x-3x to get 9x. so now it looks like \[(18x^{3} + 9x)\div6x ^{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now, for the binomial in parens do you think that there are any common factors?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[9x(2x ^{2} +1)\div6x ^{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i wasnt at my computer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9x and 2x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well you have 9x in the numerator and 6x^2 in the denom. this will cancel out to 3/2x so final answer is \[(6x^{2}+3)/3x\]

thanks !!
