What is a a recombinant vaccine and a subunit vaccine...can you explain it in simple and understanding form please? are they different from eachother...thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A recombinant vaccine is probably one which is generated from a cloned DNA sequence. This sequence would be placed in a vector which is introduced to another species: yeast have been used to make recombinant protein from viruses. The immune system recognises the recombinant protein and so when the pathogen is encountered the a greater immune response occurs. Subunit vaccines are similar - they are made up of a subunit of the virus - often the coat protein. This protein could come from the blood of chronically (long term) infected patients or it could be made using recombinant DNA technology.
