3x/2 = 15?

OpenStudy (espex):

Solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that much i need to know how.

OpenStudy (espex):

You have 3x/2 = 15, you cannot just pull x out so you need to "peel" off the other numbers to get it.

OpenStudy (mayliz):

3x=30 x=10

OpenStudy (espex):

The idea is to teach, not do the work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i agree^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what do i start off with?

OpenStudy (espex):

If side A is being divided by 2, how could you get the 2 out of there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply?

OpenStudy (espex):

Correct, \[\frac{A}{2} \times \frac{2}{1} = A\] And whatever you do to one side of the equation, you MUST do to the other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it comes out to 6x=30?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then divide by 6?

OpenStudy (espex):

Almost, you have \[\frac{3x}{2} \times \frac{2}{1}\] so the 2s cancel out and leave you with 3x on the left.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh. so divide 3 and 30?

OpenStudy (espex):

You got it. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright sweet... thanks! :)

OpenStudy (espex):

You're welcome.
