if a thermometer reads freezing point of water as 20 degree celcius and boiling point as 150degree celcius ,how much thermometer read, when the actual temperature is 60degree celcius?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the difference read is 130 degrees between freezing and boiling points. We know that the actual difference is 100 celcius, so 60 celcius will be 130 over 100 times 60 or 78.

answer is 98

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You're right - I forgot the scale starts at 20 degrees.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you do that?:S

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I figured the change in temperature read by the thermometer equivalent to 60 actual degrees. There's 1.3 degrees per actual degree so the difference is 78. Add 20 degrees for the read at freezing point of water and you get 98.
